October Photo Challenge: Day 30 - Self-Portrait

Well, the 30 Day Photo Challenge is officially over!  I had a lot of fun with it, and it was pretty challenging to try to come up with all kinds of different picture ideas.  I wish I would have pushed myself more in some cases, but maybe that's just an excuse to do another round of the challenge, eh?!  Regardless, it was a blast, and it was so awesome to see so many people participate and share their amazing photos as well.  Congratulations to everyone for finishing the challenge!  =)

October Photo Challenge: Day 29 - Black and White

I'm not 100% thrilled with how this picture looks in black and white (maybe it would have been better in a warmer sepia?) but it's good enough for now.  Mr. L and I are exhausted from our day of seeing loved ones and saying goodbye at our going away luau our parents threw for us, which is the main reason why this picture is late today.  Better late than never, though!

October Photo Challenge: Day 28 - Flower

I couldn't pick between two pictures, so you all get both for today =)

Mr. L likes the top picture, and I like the bottom one.  Which one's your favorite?

October Photo Challenge: Day 27 - From a Distance

Today's photo is from an iPhone, unedited, and not from a very far distance, but I still had to share!

It's a picture of a family waiting on their soldier at the airport that we witnessed tonight. I so wish we could have seen the reunion, but unfortunately we had to leave. God bless you, Staff Sergeant, and welcome home!

(The sign says "Welcome Home Daddy" in little kid scrawl =) )

Wednesday Words

"Forget the fear, it's just a crutch
That tries to hold you back and turn your dreams to dust.
All you need to do is trust..."
- "Unbreakable" by Fireflight

(Pretty much how I'm feeling right this second!)

I can't believe it's already time for my last Wednesday Words post before we leave!  I picked this lyric from the band Fireflight, a really awesome Christian rock band.  The words just stuck out to me so plainly the first time I heard the song, and it's so appropriate for our situation.  All we can do now is not worry and be scared and just trust that we're in God's hands.  =)

October Photo Challenge: Day 26 - Close-Up

Close-up of my hubby's recently developed passion, Warhammer 40k models (assembled and painted by him).

October Photo Challenge: Day 25 - Something Pink

I may or may not have coerced Mr. L into stopping in a store parking lot to snap this photo.

October Photo Challenge: Day 22 - Hands

Today's shot inspired me to share a poem that many of you probably already know.  I first heard it after my friend Bonnie shared it with me a little while after she and her husband got married.

Blessing of the Hands, revised by Reverend Daniel L. Harris

“These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.
These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future.
These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch, will comfort you like no other.
These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind.
These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and as in today, tears of joy.
These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children, the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.
These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.
And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged, will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.”

October Photo Challenge: Day 21 - Faceless Self-Portrait

In my "craft room" (aka the spare bedroom my mom has set up for my sewing and Mr. L's models) holding up some fabric I'll be using for a project soon =)

Five for Friday

1.  You're so sweet when you take Liam's "morning shift" for me so I can sleep just a little bit longer =)

2.  I'm sorry for how much freaking out I've done lately.  You're such a trooper for being there to hug me afterwards!

3.  Thank you for helping me with the groceries for dinner yesterday and today!

4.  Lol @ our "confessions" xD

5.  Do we really have around a week and a half left?!  Time has FLOWN by!

October Photo Challenge: Day 20 - Bokeh

Today's assignment seemed intimidating when I first read it back at the beginning of the challenge.  I'm absolutely 100% an amateur photographer, so I didn't even really know what bokeh is.  But as I was going through and editing pictures I'd taken of my brother and SIL for her maternity session, I realized I didn't need to be intimidated -- I'd already showcased an example of bokeh in one of those photos!

I'm going to play around a little more today and see if I can get more examples of bokeh with my camera.  Wish me luck!  =)

Wednesday Words

"Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower."
- Albert Camus

Today was the first day of a cold front moving through our area, so Mr. L and I were lucky enough to get a sampler of autumn weather before we leave...and now I realize how much I'm absolutely going to miss this season =(  See you in three years cute sweaters, boots, and other cozy clothing!

October Photo Challenge: Day 19 - Something Orange

You just don't get much more orange than inside Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, AL during sunset on game day.  Especially when you happen to be playing the University of Florida.

Before the Big Day: An Afternoon Tea

On the Saturday before the wedding, my dear friend Bonnie was gracious enough to throw a fabulous afternoon tea party for me! We all dolled up in pretty dresses and had ourselves a fabulous time =)

(Gorgeous decorations, plus my MIL, myself, my mom, and my nephew!)

(Adorable honey favors!)

(I loved all of the pink, especially the roses!)

Not only was the decor downright beautiful, let me tell you, I still have dreams about the salad and french onion soup she served.  YUM!  (I need that recipe in my life, Bonnie!)

After helping ourselves to a delicious lunch and plenty of tea, we posed for some pictures.

(Mr. L's grandmother, MIL, me, my mom, SIL, and nephew!)

(Me and my other SIL!)

(Posing with our beautiful hostess!)

(I can't believe how young he looks here either!)

This wonderful afternoon tea really helped kick off a pretty awesome week.  It was great to relax with many of the lovely ladies in my life and just eat, talk, and catch up.  All of the effort that Bonnie put into this tea really made me feel so loved!  Thank you SO much for everything that you did, Bonnie!  I love you!

October Photo Challenge: Day 17 - Technology

This picture was inspired by the iPhone Faces Project, created by Michael Miville.  As soon as I first saw this project, I knew it would be a fun idea to attempt to recreate eventually, so thanks to this challenge, I got off my butt and attempted it =)  Thanks for your help, Mr. L...love ya!

October Photo Challenge: Day 16 - Long Exposure

So after my original idea didn't pan out for this shot, I decided to take Mr. L out to the backyard and play with some flashlights!  (Also, oops!  Another last minute post, yikes!)

(Mr. L's attempt at a heart, which he declared actually looks more like a peach instead...)

This was my absolute first experience with using long exposure, so I really had no idea what I was doing.  I kept playing around with the ISO and whatnot, and the background always came out green like that.  Is it just the lighting that was outside (moonlight + a fluorescent shed light)?  Also, if you have any tips for me on how I can make better long exposure shots, please leave them in the comments!  They're such an awesome concept, and I'd love to shoot more like them, just better than this, obviously!

Silhouette of the Bear Bryant statue next to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, AL, taken during dusk.  (I definitely took advantage of last weekend and completed a few challenges, didn't I?  Lol.)

October Photo Challenge: Day 14 - Eyes

Since Mr. L and I are leaving today to see some wonderful friends of ours (and to go to the Auburn-Florida football game!), I wasn't able to retake a picture of my nephew and add much more detail like I wanted to.  So!  Here is another one I took about a month ago, right after my SIL's pseudo-maternity session I photographed.  I will definitely be editing this post with an updated picture as soon as I can, however!

I just love his eyes so much!  They're gorgeous.  I definitely wish I'd gotten it in better lighting though (or owned a better flash haha), but I know what to do better next time at least!  =)
